Concealed Handgun Permit Information
If you are interested in applying for a
Concealed Handgun Permit with the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, you must
apply in person. Our office will not accept applications via mail, fax or
email. Applications can be accepted at both the Meeker and Rangely Offices.

New Application Requirements
*Application
The application must be completed at the time of submission, but left unsigned. A Sheriff’s Office Designee must witness your signature.
*Colorado
Driver's License
The address on your driver’s license must match the address on the application, otherwise you will need to provide proof of Rio Blanco County residency i.e. a vehicle registration, utility bill or bank statement. A copy of your driver’s license will also be made and kept in your file.
*Handgun
Class Certificate
*$102.50
payment to the Sheriff’s Office
This payment covers the
Sheriff’s Office processing fee and the mandatory Colorado Bureau of
Investigation background check.
Forms of payment may
include cash, personal checks or money orders made out to “RBC Sheriff”. Please
note that our office has the ability to accept credit and debit cards, however
you will be charged an additional 2.25% vendor fee with a minimum of $1.00.
*Photograph
A
digital photo will be taken of you at the time your application is submitted.
*Fingerprints
This is required and can
be completed during the application submission process. Two cards must be filled
out in black ink only. Please call 970-878-9600 ahead time to schedule an appointment for fingerprints.
Renewal Application Requirements
*Application
This is the same form as the original application. You must sign the completed renewal application in front of a designated Sheriff’s Office representative. The application must also be notarized. The Office Administrator can notarize the form if submitting in Meeker.
*Colorado Driver’s License
The same policy applies as it does for new application requirements.
*Current Concealed Handgun Permit Card
A copy of this card will be made.
*Photograph
Must be updated for the new card and can be taken during application submission.
*$63 payment to the Sheriff’s Office
This payment covers the Sheriff’s Office processing fee and the mandatory Colorado Bureau of Investigation background check.

If application is submitted after expiration date, you will be charged an additional $15 to be included with the Sheriff’s processing fee. If you do not renew your permit within six months after the expiration date, it shall be deemed permanently expired. Afterwards, to obtain a permit, you will need to re-apply as a new applicant and pay all applicable fees.
Change of Address
If you move, you must fill out and provide the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office with the Address/Name Change/Lost Permit form. Additionally, if you move out of state, you must surrender your permit because it automatically becomes invalid once you become a resident of a different state.

Please keep in mind that if you are not a resident of Rio Blanco County, you must apply for a Concealed Handgun Permit (including renewals) in the county where you reside. In accordance with C.R.S. 18-12-205(2) (a), applicants must complete the permit application form and return it, in person, to the sheriff of the county or city and county in which the applicant resides or to the sheriff of the county or city and county in which the applicant maintains a secondary residence or owns or leases real property used by the applicant in a business. The applicant shall sign the completed permit application form in person before the sheriff.
