Rio Blanco County Solid Waste policy requires that all vehicles traveling to the Wray Gulch Landfill must be covered and secured. Waste that isn't covered and secured will incur an Uncovered Load Fee.

    Including television sets, central processing units (CPU's), printed circuit boards (PCB's), computer monitors, peripherals, printers, fax machines, laptops and all other computer devices, DVD players, VCRs, radios, stereos, video game consoles and video display devices with viewing screens greater than 4" diagonally.
  • Paint in liquid form
  • Freon-containing appliances
  • Sludge
  • Fluorescent light bulbs

No, e-waste must be recycled and is not allowed to be disposed of at the landfill.
Individuals may dispose of up to 9 rimless tires. Businesses are not allowed to dispose of tires and must find a legal recycling method for waste tires.
All refrigerant-containing appliances brought to the landfill for disposal must have verification from a certified technician that the proper evacuation of CFCs has occurred. This requirement is in accordance with the 1990 Clean Air Act which recognized the impact of CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) to the ozone layer of the atmosphere.

Special Waste

Special Waste is defined as non-hazardous waste that meets any of the following criteria:

  • Waste Containing free liquids (not currently accepted by Rio Blanco County);
  • Waste which is sludge or semi-solid (not currently accepted by Rio Blanco County);
  • Waste generated by an industrial process;
  • Waste generated by a pollution control process, or facility;
  • Off-specification, outdated, used or discarded chemical or petroleum products; and
  • Contaminated soil or debris resulting from the cleanup or spill or release of materials listed above.
Rio Blanco County does not accept hazardous waste.

The Special Waste Acceptance Protocol, including lab tests, must be followed in order to dispose of special waste at the Wray Gulch Landfill. Please fill out the Special Waste Characterization Form and contact the Landfill Administration Office for additional information.


 

Demolition & Clean Up

Wray Gulch Landfill will not charge fees for clean up of properties impacted by the Lee and Elk wildfires. 

Fence Material:

Burned fencing material will be accepted if it is properly prepared. Please separate wire from posts.

Asbestos:

Ash and debris should be handled in a manner that will minimize potential exposure to asbestos fibers and other hazardous materials in the debris.

Residential Debris Guidance 
Disposal Notification Form: only required for residential buildings completely destroyed or rendered unsafe by the fires.

The Colorado Department of Health and Environment - Asbestos Division regulates building demolition and renovation material allowed to be disposed of at the Wray Gulch Landfill.

Rio Blanco County is certified to dispose of non-friable and friable asbestos.

State Law and Regulations Apply, Effective July 1, 2008

House Bill 1260, enacted by the Colorado Legislature in the 2008 Legislative Session and signed by the Governor, changes the regulations and necessary paperwork to move, set, destroy, and/or transfer ownership on manufactured housing.  The law took effect on July 1, 2008.
