Requirements
If the vehicle has a
lien to be recorded, an acceptable mortgage document (security
agreement) must be provided. The document must be an original, carbon
copy, or a certified copy and must contain the vehicle description
(year, make, vehicle identification number or VIN), lien holder's name
and address, lien amount, and the owner's signature.
Vehicles
purchased from a Colorado dealer with liens to be filed are generally
mailed to the County Clerk's office. A notice of receipt will be mailed
to the owner that will include any additional taxes due and an estimate
of registration fees.
The office may have the option to print
your title if a current U.S. Driver's License or a U.S. Driver's License
expired one year or less is presented and the computer safety checks
are valid. Titles sent to the state for processing will be mailed to the
owner, if there are no liens on the vehicle. If there is a lien, the
title will be mailed to the lien holder. Please allow 2 to 4 weeks for
delivery.
